The following photographs were taken during a photography workshop at a Syrian/Turkish community center. Participants created maps of their walks to and from school and then added their own photos to mark particular areas of importance and people, including apartment buildings, grocery stores, trees and flowers, neighbors, etc..
The following entries were created by a young-adult Syrian woman who enjoys writing stories and poetry. She also took the photographs.
Translation: Oh foreignness don't be too hard on us We left our country not by our consent….. It was written upon us People don't blame us….. And don't make us cruel with your words We had enough….. we miss Syria Its air settles our hearts All people fell asleep And we stayed up all night long Oh Syria sleep in our eyes And sincerely don't forget about us on the day of the return Don't close your doors…. and leave us homeless without you And from the smell of your grass and the hug of your ground Don't deprive us |
